Sometimes an older home has great bones and with a bit of massaging and reorganization of interior spaces, a substantial transformation can occur. This Scandinavian design aesthetic we applied to a modest 1960s home is an example of how it sometimes makes more fiscal sense to undertake a very large remodel and addition versus a completely new home from the ground up. The interiors were also reconfigured to more adequately align with the way a modern family chooses to live in their home. Add a few characteristic dormers on the attic to compliment the new entry portico, and you have a very large and comfortable kid’s playroom and overflow sleeping area. The ADU was also completely remodeled. Compliment all that with a little regrading of the rear yard and the addition of a new pool, you have what appears to be a house built from the ground up, but without the additional 30-40% in cost.
