Images of Shingle Style in Cape Cod are what appealed to this client and what they requested for their piece of land in California. At approximately 6,200 square feet, this 5 bedroom, 5 full bath and 2 half bath home captures many of the key elements of those New England homes. From the curved roof form at the front, to the shaped shingles around the circular windows, to the covered rear porch (complete with porch swing), this house has it all. The delicate and cohesive trim work on the exterior are all part of a complete and finely interwoven exterior fabric.
The interiors are equally detailed in such a way as to seamlessly move between spaces. A combination of open and connected spaces and more traditionally defined rooms allows fluid movement and a clear understanding of what the house offers the inhabitant as well as private spaces uniquely designed for their intended purposes. 3-piece crown moldings throughout the ten-foot high lower floor, and a tall base molding which incorporates the various power and data wall sources provides for a clean and elegant canvass within which to set furnishings and finishes. The layout is set in such a way as to allow for multiple key areas of the main level to have visual and physical access to the large rear yard, pool, and covered pool structure. A future pool house adjacent to the pool structure is planned. Similarly, the upper floor bedrooms have access to a trellised rear terrace which overlooks the property.
It was a pleasure to work with Allwood Construction on the realization of this unique home.
